FIU HC Willie Simmons Speaks On KD Fletcher Being The 1st Female GM In CFB History

FIU head football coach Willie Simmons made history by promoting K.D. Fletcher as the first female General Manager in college football. During Conference USA Media Day, I asked him about it, and he had a lot of great things to say about what K.D. means to the FIU football program and how deserving she was of the position. “I saw an opportunity to promote someone who deserved it. It wasn't about her being a woman, it wasn't about her being a woman of color; it's about her being qualified for the position. We're glad that she's part of the program because she definitely enhances our ability to go out and recruit and make our players the best they can be.”

Coach Simmons is entering his second season as the leader of the FIU football program. During his first season, he led the Panthers to their first bowl game appearance since 2019, finishing with a 7-6 record. Simmons has over 10 years of head coaching experience and has never had a losing season, including winning an HBCU National Championship at FAMU in 2023.
